herd mentality - A herd of cows is content be herded as long as they can eat, drink and sleep.  But if they get startled they bolt and will trample anything that gets in their way. It doesn't matter if there was a real threat of danger; if one cow is spooked, they all panic and they continue to feed off of the other's fear.  People with the herd mentality are content to move through life doing what society has told them to do, as long as they feel safe. And then when someone tells them that they need to be scared and they perceive danger they look for someone to tell them the solution and then they embrace that solution, regardless of whether or not it works, and they run with it and it doesn't matter who or what they trample in the process. (APROD)
magical pill society - We have become a society that believes there is a magical pill that will instantly cure our problems.  If I take this pill, I'll lose weight.  If I give my kid this pill he'll sit still.  If I take this pill I'll be able to get this work done.  I If I take the blue one it will solve this problem and if I take the red one it will solve this problem.  Uniforms, for example, are being held up as the magical pill solution to violence in schools.
