Story's school has prominently displayed on their library wall, "Have the courage to be yourself," and yet, when this young 9-year old demonstrated such courage and wore these very words on the front of his shirt, he was suspended for 156 days, talk about hypocrisy.

This is pure speech. If these words were so materially and substantially disruptive to the educational process then why did the school have them littering the school walls in their library? The school’s requirement of solid colored shirts is nothing more than an attempt to control all speech – see it for what it really is. A duck is a duck is a duck is a duck.

On the back of Story’s shirt were the words from the First Amendment of our United States Constitution. These very words that serve to protect every citizen’s right to free speech are what helped to render Story, in the eyes of the school’s despot administrators, unworthy of an education in their public school system.

Perhaps what the Congress School system is really teaching is "Have the courage to be yourself, as long as it is confined within the parameters of what we have predetermined you worthy of being."

Perhaps the Congress School system would like to change the First Amendment to read "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances, that is unless some despot school administrator wants to."

We cannot expect our future generation to protect the cherished founding principles of this nation, when they are abusively punished for respectfully exercising those very principles when they are young.

"It does not take a majority to prevail ... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." Samuel Adams "The Father of the American Revolution"
